Silchar Municipal Election: October 2, 3 Declared Dry Days; Counting Day Also Covered

In view of the Silchar Municipal Corporation Election, 2026, the government has ordered a complete prohibition on the possession, sale, supply, distribution and consumption of liquor and other intoxicating substances within the Silchar Municipal Corporation area on October 2, 3 and 6.
The order has been issued under Section 135(C) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 and Rule 326(A) of the Assam Excise Rules, 2016.
Accordingly, October 3, the day of poll, and October 2, the day preceding the poll, have been declared as Dry Days. Further, October 6, the day of counting, will also remain a Dry Day until the completion of the counting process. The day of any re-poll, if conducted, will also be treated as a Dry Day.
During the notified Dry Days, all wholesale warehouses, IMFL retail ‘OFF’ and ‘ON’ shops, including Club ‘ON’, Hotel ‘ON’ and Country Spirit shops shall remain closed.
The order further provides that the storage of liquor by individuals shall be restricted during this period. The provisions of the Excise law relating to the storage of liquor in unlicensed premises shall be strictly enforced.
Any violation of the order shall invite action under the relevant provisions of the Assam Excise Act and Rules and Section 135(C) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. The order has been issued in the interest of a free, fair and peaceful election.
