Sikkim University launched its Four-Year Undergraduate Programme with NEP 2020. The programme was released by Education Minister Raju Basnet during an event organized by the NEP Committee of Sikkim University.
The newly designed curriculum aims to implement NEP 2020 in the colleges all round the state of Sikkim. Addressing the gathering, Minister Basnet acknowledged the neglect of the education sector in the state. He criticized the delay in building Sikkim University’s permanent campus, despite its establishment through a parliamentary act in 2007. He emphasized the need for urgent action and pledged full support to expedite the university’s shift to Yangang.
Basnet also expressed concern over the Kanchenjunga State University operating out of just two classrooms and assured it would be shifted to new premises by year-end. He spoke about the construction of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Center of Excellence in Soreng-Chakung, aiming to begin some academic activities by the end of the year.
Yodida Bhutia, NEP Committee Chairperson shared that the curriculum development started in the year of 2021 and underwent review. A total of 33 Undergraduate Curriculum Revision Committees were formed, ensuring the new structure prioritizes quality and flexibility for students’ futures.
