Polish Diplomat Claims PM Modi Prevented Russian Tactical Nuclear Strike in Ukraine

Poland’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Władysław Teofil Bartoszewski, has claimed that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi played a pivotal role in preventing Russian President Vladimir Putin from deploying tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine in late 2022. Speaking in New Delhi following the India-Poland Joint Economic Commission meeting, Bartoszewski highlighted PM Modi as a widely respected global statesman whose counsel Putin genuinely values due to India’s historical and strategic ties with Russia. The Polish diplomat emphasized that India is uniquely positioned to exert diplomatic pressure on Moscow to help de-escalate the ongoing conflict. While India has faced Western criticism for its purchase of discounted Russian crude oil, Bartoszewski noted that Warsaw now understands India’s economic and energy security motivations. India has consistently advocated for dialogue and diplomacy, famously asserting that “today’s era is not of war”.
