Dimapur Traders Oppose Proposed Closure of Railway Unloading Facility

DUCCF Backs DCCI Plea to Retain Dimapur Railway Goods Facility The Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF) has supported the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s (DCCI) appeal against the proposed closure or discontinuation of unloading operations at the existing railway goods facility in Dimapur. In a representation to Northeast Frontier Railway, the federation urged authorities to continue the existing arrangement or allow temporary unloading at the Food Corporation of India (FCI) Siding, subject to necessary clearances. DUCCF said Dimapur is a major commercial gateway and distribution hub for Nagaland, and disruption of railway goods handling could affect traders, transporters, retailers and consumers across the region. It warned that closing the facility without a practical alternative could increase transportation and handling costs, disrupt supply chains and push up prices of essential commodities, construction materials and other necessities. The federation urged NFR not to discontinue the existing facility until a fully operational alternative is available. It also called for an early decision to ensure uninterrupted movement of essential goods, price stability and public welfare, while stressing that railway modernisation should support economic development rather than create additional hardship for consumers.
