Nagaland Bharat Scouts and Guides Host Historic State Jamborette After 25-Year Gap

Advisor for Youth Resources and Sports and president of the State Bharat Scouts and Guides, S. Keoshu Yimchunger, officially inaugurated the historic Nagaland State Jamborette 2026 as the special guest at the State Training Centre in Nerhema on October 7, marking a milestone event celebrated under the inspiring theme “Serving Community, Preserving Culture.” Addressing the vibrant gathering, Yimchunger emphasized that the jamborette provides an invaluable platform for Scouts and Guides from across the region to unite, learn, share experiences, build lifelong friendships, discover new skills, and deeply appreciate diverse cultural heritages, noting that such structured activities effectively promote essential life attributes including discipline, leadership, teamwork, self-reliance, mutual respect, and dedicated community service to mold young participants into responsible citizens who can contribute positively to the future of the state. Highlighting the critical role of co-curricular engagement, he asserted that comprehensive education must extend far beyond traditional textbooks, examinations, and classroom walls, explaining that while academic learning imparts foundational knowledge, participation in Scouting and Guiding empowers students to practically apply those lessons through active cooperation, effective communication, creativity, leadership development, and hands-on service. Urging all participants to carry the noble spirit of service far beyond the conclusion of the jamborette, Yimchunger encouraged them to internalize and practice the core values and practical skills of Scouting and Guiding in their everyday lives before officially declaring the State Jamborette 2026 open. During the grand inaugural ceremony, the special guest hoisted the official Scout flag and graciously accepted a ceremonial salute presented by impressive parade contingents representing ten participating districts, namely Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Kiphire, Kohima, Mokokchung, Mon, Shamator, Tuensang, Wokha, and Zunheboto. He also commended the dedicated State Organising Committee for successfully orchestrating the major gathering and proudly felicitated esteemed President Scout and President Guide awardees, including standout students hailing from Vidya Bhawan Higher Secondary School in Dimapur and Chandmari Higher Secondary School in Kohima. Adding historical perspective to the occasion, Nagaland State Chief Commissioner of Bharat Scouts and Guides, Chubanungla, highlighted that the State Jamborette 2026 is a monumental event being organized after a notable hiatus of 25 years since the last state jamborette was held in 2001, noting that attendees will actively showcase their exceptional talents through folk songs, traditional dances, quizzes, cultural pageants, district exhibitions, intricate gate displays, vibrant food plazas, and indigenous traditional games while fostering deep bonds of friendship and cross-cultural understanding. The inaugural programme drew a distinguished audience featuring State Council members, state and district officials, unit leaders, Commandant of the 17 Assam Rifles Tijo Joseph, and a dedicated medical support team from the Chief Medical Officer’s office in Kohima, and concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by State Secretary Er. Thepfuzakie Angami.
