CRPF Overhauls Manipur Security Protocols

CRPF has released a revised Standard Operating Procedure for its personnel in Manipur due to recent ambushes on Assam Rifles’ troops amidst ongoing ethnic violence since 2023, instructing them to use only bulletproof vehicles and to refrain from unnecessary movements. The Standard Operating Procedure is enforced equally on 200 CRPF companies and two elite CoBRA units, totaling around 2,000 personnel, to ensure safety during movements and operations in Manipur. The deployment includes nearly 100 BSF companies, five ITBP companies, and six SSB companies across the state.

The revised SOP reflects increased security measures following the deaths of two Assam Rifles personnel in an ambush in Ukhrul, Assam, on July 6, and another personnel killed in an IED blast in Chumoukedima, Nagaland, on July 13, which also injured four others. On July 14, a violent mob attacked an Assam Rifles camp in Senapati, Manipur, setting vehicles on fire and vandalizing property after an anti-insurgency operation targeting suspected armed individuals.
