Experts Review Assam’s Water Resources Roadmap

Gauhati University’s Centre for Brahmaputra Studies held a consultative workshop to review the draft SWRA Report, which will inform the Assam State Water Policy. The gathering included university officials, academicians, and experts from the Flood and River Erosion Management Agency of Assam to discuss findings and provide recommendations.

In his inaugural address, Gauhati University Vice-Chancellor Prof Nani Gopal Mahanta emphasized the Brahmaputra as the region’s lifeline and the university’s dedication to evidence-based research for sustainable water governance. Dr. Pratap Singh and his FREMAA team presented findings from a comprehensive assessment of Assam’s water resources, conducted under the World Bank-funded Assam Integrated River Basin Management Programme, using the Integrated Water Resources Management framework.
