Chelsea have boosted their chances of securing a Champions League spot. At their home ground on Friday night, they defeated Aston Villa by a margin of 2-1. With this victory, Chelsea moves up to 72 points from 37 matches, maintaining their position in third place on the points table.
On the other hand, with 69 points, Tottenham is currently in fourth place. Following this win, Chelsea’s fears of slipping out of the top-four race have dissipated, while Tottenham is facing an uphill battle.
In another match, Liverpool suffered a setback in their bid for a top-four finish, managing only a 2-2 draw against Newcastle. This draw leaves Liverpool in seventh place with 55 points. Chelsea’s final match is against Everton, while Liverpool’s remaining two matches are against Bournemouth and QPR. Even if they win both, Liverpool can reach a maximum of 61 points, meaning they will finish the league in seventh position. Next season, they will have to play in the Europa League.
