Ivory Coast Trunks France’s Loss: Bonny & Wahi Switch Allegiance for World Cup Dream

Born in France, they also started their professional careers in that country. They even wore the French national jersey while playing for the U-21 team. However, in the upcoming World Cup, instead of the France jersey, these two talented players will be seen playing in Ivory Coast jerseys. One is lose Bonny and the other is Elye Wahi.
Coach Emerse Faé has included 22-year-old Inter Milan striker Bonny and 23-year-old Elye Wahi in the Ivory Coast World Cup squad. Although Bonny was born in France, Ivory Coast is the land of his ancestors. Following his application to switch nationality late last year, FIFA granted approval on 8 May. On the other hand, Elye Wahi switched countries earlier this year. Wahi also made his debut in an Ivory Coast jersey during a friendly match against Scotland last March.
Both players decided to switch countries because there was no prospect of finding a place in the France squad. Playing in the World Cup is a lifelong goal for both of them. On 4 June, Ivory Coast will play a warm-up match against France. In this match, both will likely have the opportunity to play against France, the country of their birth. In this edition of the World Cup, Ivory Coast is placed in a group alongside Ecuador, Germany, and Curaçao.
