Defending champions Bangladesh have retained their title in the SAFF U-20 Football Championship by defeating four-time champions India. In the final held last night in Male, Maldives, Bangladesh defeated India 4–3 in a penalty shootout.
The match proceeded to a shootout after the regulation 90 minutes ended in a 0–0 draw, as per tournament rules. In the tiebreaker:
For Bangladesh Mohammad Rabby, Hemanta, and Bishal Yadav were successful.
For India Rishi Singh and Omang Dodum failed to convert their chances.
Bangladesh successfully converted four shots to secure the title. A primary reason for India’s defeat was the waste of numerous goal-scoring opportunities during regulation time. Earlier, the group-stage match between the two teams had ended in a 1–1 draw.
