Pochury Community Remembers Martyrs on 66th Black Day

The Pochury Students’ Union (PSU) observed the 66th Pochury Black Day with a solemn commemorative programme at Matikhrü in Nagaland, paying tribute to those who lost their lives and remembering the community’s history and sacrifices. The memorial proceedings began at Sacred Freedom Park, where community members gathered to lay wreaths and honour the martyrs during a tribute service led by Matikhrü Students’ Union president Sievitho Kathe. The formal commemorative service was later held at Matikhrü Baptist Church under the chairmanship of PSU general secretary Tsiarhotho Thsangkhure. Rev. Rümatho Nyusou, executive secretary of the Pochury Baptist Church Council, delivered the keynote message on the theme “From Tragedy to Promise: Finding Hope in God’s Unfailing Love,” urging the gathering to place its faith and trust in God and encouraging younger generations to uphold the legacy of the pioneers through faith, unity, peace and responsibility. The programme included a minute of silence for the martyrs, prayers, musical presentations, Scripture reading and solidarity messages from representatives of the Pochury Hoho and Pochury Mothers’ Association. PSU president Rongley Leyri also highlighted the historical significance of the occasion. The commemorative service concluded with a vote of thanks and benediction, bringing together community members in remembrance, reflection and hope for the future.
