Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram district, marking the state’s first greenfield international airport built since its 2014 bifurcation, according to reports by The Hindu. Developed under a public-private partnership by GMR Visakhapatnam International Airport Ltd at a cost exceeding ₹5,640 crore, the facility is designed to process six million passengers annually in its initial phase while featuring cutting-edge artificial intelligence, biometric passenger processing, and sustainable green building standards. Alongside the airport unveiling, the Prime Minister dedicated and laid foundation stones for multi-sectoral development initiatives worth over ₹17,900 crore spanning energy transmission, national highways, and high-tech manufacturing, as detailed by Fortune India. Key projects include laying the foundation stone for South India’s first assembly and test facility under the India Semiconductor Mission—a ₹460 crore packaging plant by ASIP Technologies in Visakhapatnam—as well as major power transmission systems for renewable energy zones in Kurnool and Ananthapuram. Welcomed by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu, Prime Minister Modi characterized the airport as a economic catalyst for North Andhra, emphasizing that these transformative investments will accelerate regional connectivity, trade, and industrial development toward realizing a prosperous state, reported ANI News.
