In a significant political development, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has allocated portfolios to 12 newly inducted ministers, completing a major expansion and restructuring of his council of ministers. This extensive cabinet reshuffle represents a strategic recalibration of the state’s governance framework, intentionally balancing seasoned political veterans with energetic fresh faces to accelerate development across crucial public sectors. Key appointments among the new layout include Ajanta Neog taking charge of Finance and Women & Child Development, Keshab Mahanta assuming responsibility for Health & Family Welfare and Medical Education, and Ranoj Pegu being placed at the helm of Education and Tribal Welfare. Additionally, Pijush Hazarika has been assigned the critical Water Resources and Parliamentary Affairs departments, while Jayanta Mallabaruah handles Public Health Engineering, Tourism, and Skill Development.
The remaining portfolio allocations highlight the administration’s localized focus on infrastructure, disaster resilience, and community welfare across Assam’s diverse demographic landscape. Ashok Singhal has been entrusted with Housing & Urban Affairs and Irrigation, while Jogen Mohan will steer the vital Revenue and Disaster Management department alongside Hills Area Development. To oversee the state’s sprawling plantation economy and environmental assets, Sanjay Kishan takes over Labour and Tea Tribes Welfare, while Chandra Mohan Patowary assumes control of Environment & Forests, Act East Policy Affairs, and Welfare of Minorities. Rounding out the sweeping reorganization, Urgrao Brahma has been assigned Plain Tribes & Backward Classes Welfare and Soil Conservation, Bimal Borah takes on Industries & Commerce and Cultural Affairs, and Sanju Bora will manage the Sports & Youth Welfare and Information & Public Relations portfolios.
