Lovlina Borgohain Adds Asian Games Gold to Olympic Bronze, Hangzhou Silver

Assam boxer Lovlina Borgohain clinched the gold medal in the women’s 75kg category at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, defeating China’s Ziyi Bao in a dominant 5-0 victory in the final on Thursday.

The triumph made the occasion even more memorable as Lovlina achieved the feat on her 29th birthday, delivering a perfect celebration for herself and her supporters.

The Olympic bronze medallist advanced to the final after edging past Kazakhstan’s Natalya Bogdanova 3-2 in a closely contested semi-final. With that victory, she became the first Indian woman boxer to reach two consecutive Asian Games finals.

Ahead of the title bout, her father Tiken Borgohain had expressed hope that a gold medal would be the best birthday gift for his daughter.

“We, as parents, are always with her and support her every day. Today is also her birthday, so if she wins, it will be a very big moment,” he had said.

Lovlina’s latest achievement marks a significant improvement on her performance at the Hangzhou Asian Games, where she secured a silver medal in the same weight category. The gold medal further strengthens her impressive career, which already includes an Olympic bronze and several international accolades.

Her journey to the final had guaranteed India at least a silver medal. Before defeating Bogdanova in the semi-finals, Lovlina overcame South Korea’s Seong Suyeon in the quarter-finals.

With the gold-medal victory, Lovlina has once again underlined her status as one of India’s finest boxers, completing a remarkable Asian Games campaign on her birthday.
