IMD Warns of More Rain as Landslide Blocks Vital Arunachal Road

A major landslide triggered by incessant rainfall severely disrupted road connectivity in Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday after the Seppa–Itanagar road was blocked near Zero Block Point, close to Seppa. The landslide occurred following continuous heavy rainfall, sending rocks, mud and debris crashing onto the highway and cutting off the vital route connecting East Kameng district with the state capital, Itanagar.

According to preliminary reports, a vehicle was caught in the landslide and is believed to be buried beneath the debris. However, officials have not yet confirmed the number of occupants or reported any casualties or injuries. Rescue teams and road-clearing agencies are expected to launch operations to assess the situation, search for the trapped vehicle and clear the affected stretch of road.

Authorities have advised commuters to avoid travelling along the Seppa–Itanagar route until it is declared safe. Officials will also inspect the surrounding hillsides for the possibility of fresh landslides before restoring traffic movement.

Arunachal Pradesh has witnessed persistent rainfall over the past several days, resulting in multiple landslides and disruptions to road connectivity across different parts of the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more heavy rainfall in the coming days and has urged residents, especially those living in landslide-prone areas, to remain vigilant and follow official weather advisories. The administration continues to monitor the situation closely as efforts are made to restore connectivity and ensure public safety.
