Assam Cabinet Portfolios Announced CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Allocates Key Departments to 12 Newly Inducted Ministers

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma officially announced the allocation of portfolios to the 12 newly inducted ministers in his cabinet, following their swearing-in ceremony on June 5. In the new administrative setup, Chief Minister Sarma has retained direct control over critical core portfolios, including Home and Political, Power, Public Works Department (PWD), and Information and Public Relations, alongside any unallocated portfolios. The distribution represents a strategic layout for the state’s newly formed NDA government, which took charge earlier in May following the assembly election results.

Among the high-profile assignments for the newly inducted ministers, the Finance portfolio has been entrusted to Jayanta Malla Baruah, a close associate of the Chief Minister. Meanwhile, veteran leader Ranoj Pegu has retained the critical Education Department, and Ashok Singhal will continue his tenure heading the Health & Family Welfare along with the Medical Education & Research portfolios. Additionally, Bimal Borah has been assigned a broad set of responsibilities, taking charge of the Cultural Affairs, Industries, Commerce & Public Enterprises, and Act East Policy Affairs departments. These 12 new members join the four cabinet ministers who initially took the oath of office alongside the Chief Minister on May 12, finalizing the foundational governance blueprint for Assam’s executive team.
