Assam christian forum welcomes centre’s referral of fcra amendment bill to jpc

The Assam Christian Forum (ACF) has welcomed the prudent decision of the central government to refer the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment (FCRA) Bill, 2026 to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for detailed examination.
“This democratic and consultative step demonstrates the government’s willingness to listen to the concerns of the NGOs, minority communities and other civil society stakeholders. The Assam Christian Forum warmly welcomes the opportunity for wider deliberation and looks forward to constructive engagement with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Joint Parliamentary Committee during the scrutiny of the proposed legislation,” Allen Brooks, spokesperson for ACF, said.
Brooks further stated that the forum remains dedicated to contributing positively to India’s progress and is committed to serving the people of Assam and the nation through education, healthcare, social development and various charitable initiatives.
“We reaffirm our readiness to work in a spirit of dialogue and cooperation to help shape a balanced statutory framework — one that upholds natural justice while enabling genuine civil society organisations to continue their service to the nation and its citizens without hindrance,” the ACF spokesperson said.
“ACF reiterates its unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability and responsible engagement with the government and all stakeholders, always keeping the larger interest of the country and its people at the centre,” he stated.
“We pray that the deliberations of the Joint Parliamentary Committee will be guided by wisdom, fairness and the common good,” he added.
