Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Russia is maintaining direct communication with India to clarify its actions following a Russian cruise missile strike on the commercial cargo ship MV Golden Leo in the Black Sea, which killed ten crew members, including four Indian nationals. The Guinea-Bissau-flagged vessel was hit while departing the Ukrainian port of Odesa. The deadly incident prompted India’s Ministry of External Affairs to summon Russian Chargé d’Affaires Vladimir Ladanov to convey New Delhi’s “unequivocal condemnation” regarding attacks on civilian shipping and the loss of innocent seafarers. In defense of the military operation, Peskov stated that Russian forces will continue to strike vessels transporting weapons, ammunition, or military hardware intended for Ukrainian troops. Meanwhile, Indian diplomatic officials in Ukraine are working to support the families of the deceased and assist a fifth Indian crew member who remains hospitalized in critical condition.
