An Air India flight witnessed intense concern after a passenger displayed abnormal behavior mid-air. The passenger is alleged to have repeatedly rammed his head against the aircraft window. However, the flight eventually landed safely in Delhi.
According to Air India authorities, the incident occurred on 7 June on flight AI-1879 from Chandigarh to Delhi. It is learnt that while the aircraft was airborne, a passenger suddenly began behaving uncontrollably and repeatedly banged his head against the window glass.
This caused damage to the inner acrylic layer of the window. Although the incident caused considerable concern among the flight crew, the airline clarified that the safety of passengers, crew members, or the aircraft was not compromised at any point.
To bring the situation under control, the cockpit crew followed prescribed safety protocols. The passenger was also warned several times.
According to a statement by Air India, the passenger was handed over to security agencies immediately after landing in Delhi. The civil aviation regulatory body has also been informed about the incident.
Air India stated that it has a ‘zero tolerance’ policy towards any behavior that could endanger the safety of passengers and crew. An internal committee of the airline will review the incident and decide whether the passenger should be classified as an ‘unruly passenger.’
As per rules, inclusion of the passenger in the ‘no-fly’ list may also be considered. Meanwhile, relevant authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident for further action under aviation safety regulations.
