US Industry Urges Trump to Keep Chinese Automakers Out as Xi Jinping Summit Approaches

Representatives of the American industrial sector and policymakers have appealed to U.S. President Donald Trump not to open the American market for Chinese car manufacturing companies. Trump is scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping this week. In such a situation, this appeal holds special significance. It is noteworthy that last January at the Detroit Economic Club, Trump welcomed Chinese and Japanese companies to manufacture cars in America.
When asked by journalists how he would react if Chinese companies established car manufacturing projects in America and wanted to provide employment to American citizens, Trump replied— “I would like that. Let China come, let Japan come.”
It is significant to mention that even before Trump’s administration, the American car manufacturing industry had been opposing the opening of paths for Chinese car manufacturers to enter America.
