17-Year-Old Shahida Anjum Wins U-17 Chess Championship

Shahida Anjum won the girls’ category championship at the Under-17 chess competition organized by Barpeta Kingchess Academy at 118 No. Metuakuchi Primary School on 12 April.
Shahida Anjum, an eighth-grade meritorious student of St. Teresa English Medium School, has earlier won awards playing chess across various places in Assam. Besides chess, she has also won awards in classical music, dance, recitation and other competitions.
Shahida Anjum is the only daughter of mother Anowara Begum and father Baguddin Ahmed. Congratulating her on the success were Kingchess Chess Academy’s national coach Prabirjyoti Talukdar, the Barpeta District Chess Association, and the authorities of St. Teresa English Medium School where she studies, along with several prominent persons of Barpeta district.
The competition was conducted by national arbiters Homen Chandra Bora, Chandana Talukdar and Utpal Besai. Present at the prize distribution were senior coach Dijendra Nath Das, skilled player Chandan Kumar Das and Purbajyoti Sutradhar, head teacher of 118 No. Metuakuchi Primary School.
A total of 11 players from various Assam districts including Barpeta, Nalbari, Bongaigaon, Kamrup etc. took part. Players who secured positions in the competition were given cash prizes, trophies, medals and certificates.
