The skeleton remains of a Sikkim government school teacher who had been missing for more than seven months were discovered in a locked residence in Siliguri on Thursday, according to the authorities. The victim was identified as Passang Doma Sherpa, a Nepali teacher at a government school in Sikkim’s Namchi district. She was reported missing since August 7, 2024. The Namchi Superintendent of Police acknowledged that her family had filed a missing person complaint.
The bodies were discovered inside a Sherpa-owned home in the Devidanga district of Siliguri, which is around 100 kilometers away from Namchi. The house, located in a remote region, was locked from the outside. During the inquiry, police busted into the door.
The skeletal remains have been sent for post-mortem examination, and DNA profiling will be used to confirm the identification. Police are investigating all conceivable scenarios, including abduction, detention, and unexpected death. A forensic examination is being conducted to identify the exact cause of death.
