In a gesture aimed at connecting with the backbone of Assam’s economy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited a lush tea estate during his ongoing tour of the state. Dressed in traditional attire, the Prime Minister spent time walking through the plantation, even trying his hand at plucking tea leaves alongside the workers. Describing the visit as a “memorable experience,” Modi lauded the dedication of the tea garden community, referring to them as the “pride of Assam” whose hard work has made Indian tea a global brand.
The visit was marked by lighthearted moments as the Prime Minister broke protocol to take selfies with the woman workers and engaged in brief conversations about their daily lives and the impact of welfare schemes. Government officials noted that the interaction underscores the administration’s focus on the “Tea Tribe” community, a crucial demographic in the upcoming Assembly elections. By highlighting the cultural and economic significance of the tea industry, the Prime Minister’s visit serves to reinforce the “Vikas bhi, Virasat bhi” (Development as well as Heritage) narrative that has become a hallmark of the NDA’s campaign in the Northeast.
