The five-day North East NSS Festival 2026 began on July 27 at Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma, bringing together National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers from all eight Northeastern states under the theme “Viksit Bharat.”
Addressing the inaugural session held at RCEMPA, Jotsoma, Advisor of School Education, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, called upon NSS volunteers to remain committed to the values of selfless service, leadership and national integration. He appreciated the organisers for creating a platform that celebrates the spirit of service, cultural diversity and unity among the youth of the region.
Dr. Yhome highlighted that the festival would provide participants with opportunities to build friendships, exchange ideas and gain experiences that can inspire positive change in society. He expressed hope that the volunteers would return with renewed motivation to contribute towards community development and nation-building.
State NSS Officer, Nagaland, Ruokuovituo Zatsu, informed that around 300 NSS volunteers have registered for the festival. The five-day programme includes cultural exchange activities, quiz competitions, technical sessions, sightseeing and cleanliness drives.
The inaugural programme was chaired by Dr. Subenthung P. Tsopoe, Programme Officer, NSS, Kohima Science College, Jotsoma. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Temjenwabang, Principal of Kohima Science College, while an introductory note was presented by D. Carthigueane, Regional Director, NSS, North Eastern Region.
Organised by the State NSS Cell, Nagaland, and hosted by Kohima Science College in collaboration with the Regional Directorate of NSS, Guwahati, and the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, the festival will conclude on July 31.
