Assam’s Udalguri Hospital Crosses 11,000 Free Dialysis Sessions

The dialysis centre at Udalguri District Civil Hospital in Assam has provided 11,423 free dialysis sessions to 124 patients since its establishment, offering vital support to people requiring regular kidney treatment. The centre was inaugurated on April 9, 2023, under the Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme (PMNDP) to make dialysis more accessible and affordable for patients. Since its inception, the facility has been providing dialysis services free of cost, helping reduce the financial burden on patients who require long-term renal care. The centre is equipped with four negative-pressure haemodialysis machines and one HCV-reactive machine, allowing healthcare workers to provide specialised dialysis services while catering to patients with different medical requirements. The initiative highlights the role of government healthcare facilities in expanding access to essential treatment, particularly for patients who need frequent and ongoing dialysis. With more than 11,000 sessions delivered to date, the Udalguri centre has emerged as an important healthcare facility for kidney patients in the district, providing regular treatment closer to home and reducing the need to travel to distant centres for dialysis.
