NEHHDC signs MoU with CML to strengthen handloom ecosystem in Assam

The North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation Ltd. (NEHHDC) and CML (Centre of Microfinance and Livelihood), an initiative of Tata Trusts, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), in Guwahati on Monday to strengthen Assam’s handloom clusters and improve the livelihoods of local weavers and artisans.
The partnership comes under the Antaran initiative of Tata Trusts, which focuses on transforming craft-based livelihoods by supporting artisans across the entire value chain. Through this collaboration, NEHHDC and CML will work together on skill enhancement, design development, product innovation, entrepreneurship training and expanding market access for artisans in Assam.
The MoU was signed by Mara Kocho, Managing Director of NEHHDC and Madhabananda Ray, Executive Director of CML in the presence of senior officials from NEHHDC, CML, NABARD and participating artisans.
By combining the institutional capabilities of NEHHDC with the livelihood expertise of CML, the partnership aims to build a stronger, market-oriented handloom ecosystem in Assam, helping artisans earn better and more sustainable livelihoods from their craft.
