Yanthan Stresses Pulse Security, Market Links and Farmer Support for Nagaland

Nagaland Agriculture Advisor Mhathung Yanthan highlighted the specific needs of Northeast hill states at the National Conference on AgriStack under the Digital Agriculture Mission and Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses, held in New Delhi on August 22, 2026. Addressing the conference in the presence of Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, along with ministers and senior officials, Yanthan outlined Nagaland’s progress in AgriStack and Farmer ID while drawing attention to challenges arising from the state’s difficult terrain, traditional land-holding systems, shifting cultivation and lack of comprehensive land records. He also highlighted key priorities including pulse seed security, region-specific crops, rice-fallow and Zaid cultivation, and stronger market linkages for farmers. Yanthan appreciated Minister Chouhan’s initiative and commitment to improving the implementation of agricultural schemes through regular review and monitoring. He urged the Centre to consider the unique requirements of Northeast hill states while implementing national agricultural missions, stressing that region-specific approaches are essential for ensuring meaningful benefits for farmers. His remarks underscored the importance of adapting digital agriculture and self-reliance initiatives to local conditions while strengthening agricultural productivity, market access and farmer resilience across the Northeast.
