Indian Badminton’s New Star: Tanvi Sharma Wins First BWF World Tour Title At Taipei Open

India’s 17-year-old rising badminton star Tanvi Sharma clinched her first BWF World Tour title on Sunday by winning the Taipei Open 2026 tournament.

In the women’s singles final, Tanvi defeated Vietnam’s 6th seed Nguyen Thuy Linh in straight sets, 21-16, 21-16. With this historic victory, Tanvi set several new records.

At just 17 years and 222 days old, she became the youngest-ever winner in the history of the Taipei Open. With this, she broke the previous record held by badminton legend Tai Tzu-Ying.

Tanvi is also the first Indian woman to win the Taipei Open since Saina Nehwal’s triumph in 2008.

She has now become the fourth Indian woman to win a BWF Super 300 or higher title, after Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu and Devika Sihag.

Throughout the tournament, Tanvi delivered an outstanding performance and dropped only one set in the entire event. In the final, with her brilliant net play and smart game sense, she gave her opponent no chance.

Currently ranked World No. 34, Tanvi Sharma’s win is a big achievement for Indian badminton.
