Assam CM Applauds Islamic Committees Appeals to Skip Cow Sacrifice on Bakrid

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has warmly welcomed public appeals made by various Muslim bodies across the state, which urge community members to avoid sacrificing cows during the upcoming festival of Bakrid (Id-ul-Zuha). Over the past few days, several Eidgah and graveyard committees spanning at least four districts including Hojai, Dhubri, Bongaigaon, and Cachar (specifically Udharbond)—have actively circulated these advisories. The representatives from these committees have encouraged the minority community to respect the deep-rooted cultural and religious sentiments of their non-Muslim neighbors by opting for alternative animals for the ritual sacrifice.

Expressing his appreciation on social media, Chief Minister Sarma shared copies of the official statements and newspaper clippings issued by the religious committees. He emphasized that these thoughtful, voluntary actions will go a long way toward strengthening communal harmony and mutual goodwill throughout Assam. As the state gears up for the festival of sacrifice, the Chief Minister noted that this respectful initiative perfectly highlights the spirit of social harmony and expressed his hope that other local Eidgah committees will follow suit by releasing similar community appeals.
