BCCI Sounds IPL Workload Concerns for Test Squad Players

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is concerned about the physical strain on cricketers during the IPL. Specifically, BCCI officials want to reduce the workload of players who are part of the Test squad. Immediately following the conclusion of the IPL, Team India is scheduled to face Afghanistan in a Test match.
IPL teams have been cautioned regarding the workload of key Test players like Shubman Gill and Jasprit Bumrah. Messages have also been sent directly to the cricketers involved.
The IPL final is scheduled for May 31. Shortly after, on June 6, the one-off Test match between India and Afghanistan will begin. Indian players will not have much opportunity for adequate rest after playing in such a long tournament. BCCI officials are worried that the pressure on Test squad members might become excessive. A BCCI official stated that the board’s medical staff is keeping a close watch on the fitness levels of the Test players.
While no major changes are expected in the batting department for the Test against Afghanistan, selectors might make changes to the bowling lineup. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj might be rested for this Test match to manage their workload.
