India’s Ayush Shetty continues his excellent performance in the Badminton Asia Championships. With another spectacular victory, the young shuttler has entered the quarter-finals of the men’s singles category.
In the pre-quarterfinals, Ayush defeated Chinese Taipei’s Chi Yu Jen with a score of 21-16, 21-12. Earlier, in the first round, Ayush caused a major upset by defeating the world number seven seed, Lin Chun-yi. In the quarter-finals, the Indian player will face Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie.
On the other hand, veteran Indian players P.V. Sindhu and H.S. Prannoy suffered defeats in the second round of the tournament. Two-time Olympic medalist Sindhu was defeated today in a women’s singles match by China’s Han Yue with a score of 21-18, 21-8. Prannoy lost to his Chinese opponent Weng Hong Yang with a score of 21-12, 21-19.
Additionally, another rising Indian star, Unnati Hooda, was defeated in the second round of women’s singles by Japan’s Tomoka Miyazaki with a score of 21-17, 21-9.
Ayush Shetty is the standout performer, reaching the quarter-finals after beating highly-ranked opponents.
Major Indian stars like P.V. Sindhu and H.S. Prannoy have been knocked out of the competition.
