The tourism landscape of Assam has received a significant green boost with the inauguration of ‘Luit-Rhino Abode,’ a premier eco-retreat situated on the serene banks of the Brahmaputra, bordering the Kohora range of Kaziranga National Park. Designed with a “zero-carbon footprint” philosophy, the retreat offers travelers an immersive experience that blends high-end comfort with the raw, untamed beauty of Assam’s most famous wildlife sanctuary. Built using locally sourced bamboo, thatch, and recycled wood, the property aims to promote sustainable “slow tourism” while providing a direct view of the majestic Greater One-Horned Rhinoceros grazing in the nearby marshes.
The retreat is more than just a stay; it is a community-driven conservation project. Managed in partnership with local Mising and Karbi youth, the resort offers curated experiences such as guided “river-safaris” in traditional country boats, birdwatching treks, and organic farm-to-table dining featuring indigenous Assamese recipes. The owners emphasize that a portion of the revenue will go directly toward the ‘Brahmaputra Conservation Fund,’ which supports anti-poaching units and flood relief for forest guards. As Kaziranga sees a record surge in international tourists this season, this new retreat sets a benchmark for how luxury hospitality can coexist with delicate ecosystems.
