Assam CM Alleges National Security Risks Involving Gaurav Gogoi Congress MP Dismisses Claims as ‘C-Grade Cinema’

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has leveled serious allegations against Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, claiming a “deeper connection” between Gogoi’s family and Pakistani interests. Sarma alleged that Gogoi’s British wife, Elizabeth Colburn, was paid by a Pakistani national, Ali Tauqeer Sheikh, through an organization that bypassed FCRA regulations. The Chief Minister further claimed that Colburn allegedly shared sensitive intelligence reports with Sheikh and that Gogoi himself undertook a “confidential” 10-day trip to Pakistan in 2013 for suspected training. Asserting that these activities pose a threat to national security, Sarma announced that the state has recommended a federal probe by the Ministry of Home Affairs and will seek to cancel Colburn’s OCI status.

In a sharp rebuttal, Gaurav Gogoi dismissed the Chief Minister’s claims as “mindless and bogus,” comparing the press conference to a “super flop C-grade cinema.” The Congress leader argued that Sarma’s allegations are a desperate attempt to divert public attention from the opposition’s “Xomoy Parivartan Yatra,” which has raised questions regarding the Chief Minister’s own family property holdings. Gogoi maintained that the accusations lack credibility and are politically motivated ahead of the assembly elections, challenging Sarma to instead explain the acquisition of thousands of bighas of land by his own family members across the state.
