Vi rolls out 5G services in Siliguri, first city in West Bengal to get next-gen connectivity

Leading telecom operator Vodafone Idea (Vi) announced the launch of its 5G services in Siliguri, making it the first city in West Bengal to experience the company’s next-generation connectivity. The service will be available to customers with 5G-enabled devices starting tomorrow, as part of Vi’s nationwide phased expansion across 17 priority circles where it has secured spectrum. Vi has already introduced 5G in key cities including Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Bangalore, Pune, Jaipur, Kochi, and Vishakhapatnam. As an introductory offer, Vi customers in Siliguri can access unlimited 5G data on recharge plans starting from ₹299, enabling high-definition streaming, cloud gaming, video conferencing, and faster downloads.

In Siliguri, the launch of Vi’s 5G is expected to boost the city’s position as a strategic hub in North Bengal. With its growing retail, tourism, and logistics sectors, faster digital connectivity could transform business operations, particularly in e-commerce and online services, while also benefiting students and professionals relying on high-speed internet.

Commenting on the launch, Sovan Mukherjee, Business Head – Kolkata and Rest of Bengal, Vodafone Idea, said: “With our next-gen 5G alongside robust 4G services, we aim to provide more options and an enhanced experience to our users. We are committed to systematically expanding our 5G footprint across West Bengal.” To strengthen its network, Vi has partnered with Nokia for advanced, energy-efficient infrastructure and has deployed AI-powered Self-Organizing Networks (SON). Alongside its 5G rollout, Vi has also upgraded its 4G services with spectrum deployment and site installations across Kolkata and Rest of Bengal, resulting in up to 16% capacity enhancement in recent months.
